More details later, but sometimes you just don't know how a date is going until the end. We seemed to vibe so well--constant conversation, and I'm sure he was into what I was talking about. So much that when I tried to shift the conversation to him, he declared that we weren't done with me yet.
Then he ends the night with a cheek kiss and a "Nice to meet you." That's literally the equivalent of saying "I had a fine time, but I won't call you."
And I liked this one.
Hell, I'd even just fool around with him I think.
But maybe that wouldn't be the best idea anyway. Okay, the full story another time!

Did it ever occur to you that maybe he likes you as well and thought that rather than going in for the kill on date #1 he would actually take some time to get to know you and let something more develop?
Nope--it's more the "Nice to meet you" instead of "So I'll call you?" or "Would you like to do this again?"
Was this the, "hey why don't you schlep all the way out of Manhattan for a drink guy?" I've had absolutely no luck with those guys. The ones who were really interested would make an effort to plan a date that was easy for me to get to, and actually were quite a bit more substantial than just meeting for a drink. It's good that you went - he might have met you and realized how great you are. But just go into that kind of date with low expectations.
Ive said that before and ended up calling but usually that means hes not interested.
I had a guy email me the next day after a date once and ended his email by saying "Take Care." Along the same lines of nice to meet you. I didn't expect to hear from him again. I did but it was only these vague emails making small talk. He never asked me out again and I never had any idea what that dude wanted. Here's to a happy 2008!
One recent date, after an hour of nonstop (and actually pretty cerebral conversation):
Me: You have such great stories. I'd love to hear more of them sometime.
Him: Nice to meet you too.
Now that's "I had a fine time, but I won't call you." And he didn't...
